Ledaig 12 YO Rebels The Guerilla Casks 51.5% Cask #700102 (IB, Brave New Spirits)

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

TLDR;

Simple and pleasant drink. Sweet, peaty smoke, but it might get on your tongue once you sip too much.

Nice Scale; 84/100

A release from Brave New Spirits, distilled by Tobermory distillery, on the Isle of Mule.

*Ledaig, the peated version of Tobermory

Rebel from the convention! Aged in a single 1st fill Madeira wine barrique for 12 years. Distilled in March 2009 and bottled in March 2021 at cask strength with an outturn of 263 bottles, Cask number 700102.

Nose: A nice balance between smoke and herb, with hints of sweetness that are calling you to commit to it anytime soon. Simple yet pleasant on the nose.

Mouth: Rich in body, the fruitiness of the Maderia kicks in, and then the peat part comes in. Easy to drink... at the start. A very nice harmony between the wine cask and Ledaig-till a certain extend. And, I mean by 'at the start', when you sipped a decent amount, the wine part got too strong and stuck to your tongue- a feeling of stickiness and dry sugar syrups.

Finish: Smoky and some dry sweetness

Generally, if you want something to end the night or you have a long day, this is the one to go; simple, smooth and peaty.

But remember to drink more water- the wine will be stuck to your tongue XD.

Nice Scale: 84/100
