TLDR;
Light, orange peels, young and 'raw'.
Nice Scale; 79/100
A release from Thompson Bros back in November 2022, distilled at Glenrothes distillery in 2011 and bottled at 11 years. The outturn of 314 bottles. Each aged in Refill butt and finishing the last 8 months in 1st fill Oloroso. Bottled at 53.6% cask strength.
Very intense in colour. And I would say it tastes slightly different from the official bottlings.
Glenrothes 2011 11 YO 53.6%
Nose; Orange peels were the first thing I could sense, bright fruits, maybe a bit rush when first opened. It does give me a steel/sulphur type of impression.
Mouth; Considered light (but not one dimension) to me, fresh orange peels and citrus; you do taste the orange pulps, brown sugar and a young whisky in my opinion. Despite leaving it for some time (like 1-2 weeks); the liquid might still be somewhat 'spiky steel/sulphur' in it- perhaps the oaky-ness is too strong. If I were to put it in a nice way- it has a unique complexity.
Finish: Medium and brown sugar
I would say it suits people who are into fruity (orange & citrus) & strong oaky whisky.
And, unfortunately- I have to part ways with my Glenrothes.
As it falls from the top of my car (Refer to the picture below. Press like to pay respect).
IDK, even breaking up with my first love wasn't this heartbreaking.
We should all be responsible whisky drinkers- don't leave your bottle unattended,
especially during a windy day.
R.I.P little birdy.
