GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 10 58.6% (OB)

Updated: Mar 25, 2023

TLDR;

Sweet, deep and better than batch 9 IMO.

Nice Scale: 84/100

A successor of the Batch 9 release, it matured in both Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Cask. Bottles at an ABV of 58.6% this time.

Got to try this bottle during a BYOB session; thank you, kind sir, for letting me try it.

My notes for this will also compare it against batch 9, and the review is based on a just-opened bottle.

Nose: You do smell the wet woods at the start with some sweet caramel. Because kind sir brought in an unopened bottle, so more flavours can be expected if you let the bottle sit on your shelve for some time. The nose does feel better compared to batch 9, softer with more sweetness.

Mouth: Sweet sherry notes, not too aggressive (not too aggressive, maybe because my palate is spoiled, but sure it is easier to approach compared to batch 9.). Decently deep with chocolates, I do catch a hint of ripe berries. Sure more things can be expected once you let it sit on the shelve for some days. Better structured compared to the previous batch, with more progression of flavours, and now after trying batch 10, it makes batch 9 more woody and harsh.

Finish: Peppery and nutty with some creaminess.

Overall a decent cask strength batch release, nice and deep. But as cask strength, I always recommend you to leave it on the shelves for some time and come back to taste it again.

As more flavour of the cask will float up in the liquid in this way.
