TLDR;
Ashy peat, lemon and sweet honey.
Nice scale: 82/100
Distilled at Caol Ila distillery on 25th February 2008, aged in a Laphroaig Quarter Cask #303647A for 13 years, just 8 more days to be 14. Bottled at a cask strength of 52.4%, outturn of 120 bottles.
Caol Ila 2008 13YO 52.4%
Nose: Ashy peat, sweet, lemon, spice and smoke. It is smokier than the standard 12YO OB.
Mouth: Oily, ashy peat, smoky, peppery sweet, and honey. Light bodied.
Finish: Honey and the saltiness of the seawater. Pick up slight bitter notes as well.
Simple and straightforward, the Laphroaig cask does make the difference, giving it a more muscular smokiness, and at the cask strength, everything feels more enhanced, nothing is disturbing, but nothing is outstanding as well. Maybe a thicker body will make it more appreciated as my palate is less sensitive nowadays :P
Nice scale: 82/100
I really like to use this glass recently!
