Last day of 2023 (White Label/Tobermory/Glengoyne/Ledaig/Springbank/Allt-A-Bhainne)

This is a long overdue review that I should have written earlier, but here it is :D

Nose: The fresh grapes, white sugar mixed with hay and some shoe polish on the nose.

Mouth: Polish oil wax, light sweetness, one dimension in the mouth. Gentle and some oiliness add some weight to the mouth.

Finish: Polish Oil.

It's simple and easy; if you are looking for more flavours, you have to look elsewhere. I got this as a welcome drink, and it pulled off the trick.

Nice scale: 82/100

2)Ledaig 27 #144 47.3% (IB, Dramscape)

Unpeated Ledaig?

Nose: Fruity, smokey and soft on the nose. I actually felt the chewiness of it by the nose. There are malts, nuts and slight alcohol sharpness to it. Dusty and sugary expressions are present too.

Mouth: Round, sweet with light waxiness to it. Berries, fruits and vanilla. Gentle and pleasant.

Finish: Waxy and light bitter notes.

Nice scale: 84/100

3)Glengoyne 28YO Travel Retail Exclusive 46.8%

Glengoyne has always deserved a spot in my liver, reserved since 1998.

Nose: Cupboard, dried fruits, a bit sour and there are light sour plum notes.

Mouth: Cupboard, figs and dried fruits. The feeling is rich and sour at the same time. And some sweetness to it.

Finish: Cupboard.

Well, this time, I have no idea on what's wrong with Glengoyne. It is just not great or not Glengoyne to me. Work it back works; the liquid was produced around 1990s.

Nice scale: 76/100

4)Ledaig 1998 23YO 64% (IB, Douglas Laing's XOP Black)

On the IsIe of Mull, Tobermory Distillery is cracking some peated variants, and this time, it is PEATED Ledaig, for real. 64%, making it look Xtra attractive.

Nose: Smoke, shoe polish with herbal veggie peats. The wood, candle wax leather and smoked bacon are there too.

Mouth: Petrol, sweet, shoe polish and creams. A waxiness is present with a light smokiness. Dry soil kind of peat and smoked meat.

Finish: Waxy and light smokiness

Nice scale: 86/100

5) Springbank NO.60A 1994 27YO 47% (IB, Whisky Sponge)

Nose: Orange, cirtus, hay and dusty. Green apples, and sunflower seeds and its rather light on the nose. The theme revolves around <Malt>, some shadow of Springbank 10.

Mouth: Sweet, light and gentle. The middle is hallow followed by slight sharp peppery notes. Light saltiness with a touch of ashy peat. Tiny wood bitterness dancing around with the oiliness persists throughout the experience. There are fresh grapes and fresh fruits. The classic Springbank expressions can be felt in the mouth.

Finish: Salty and light oiliness with fresh hay.

It's pleasant, and I don't want to sound overly entitled; I don't get the hit for this, again, it is pleasant but just like other whiskies.

Nice scale: 84/100

6) Allt-A-Bhainne 1993 22YO 51.8% (IB, Jack Wiebers Whisky World)

My interest in Allt-A-Bhainne has grown over the year 2023.

Nose: Gummy sweetness, berries and sweet mango with light peach under it. Malts, sugar, vanilla and leathery.

Mouth: Cream, milky chocolate, light oaky spice and sweet fruitiness. Round and touch of vanilla.

Finish: Cream and light bitterness with apple.

Nice scale: 84/100
